FAQ

  • What is the Canadian Mathematics Competition Program?
The Canadian Mathematical Competition is organized by the Canadian Education Council (CEC) on behalf of the Thai Canadian Alumni Association (TCAA) in partnership with the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) The Canadian Mathematics Competition (CMC) Program is a series of mathematics competitions designed for students in elementary, middle, and high school across Canada and internationally. These competitions aim to foster a love of mathematics, develop problem-solving skills, and identify talented students. The program is administered by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo.
  • Who can participate in the CMC Program?
The CMC Program is open to students from Kindergarten to 12, including international students. There are multiple competitions tailored to different age groups and skill levels, so students can participate in the competition best suited to their abilities.
  • What is the format of the competitions?
The competitions generally consist of multiple-choice and written-response questions that challenge students' mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills. The duration, number of questions, and scoring methods vary depending on the competition. Each competition is designed to be accessible while still providing a meaningful challenge.
  • How long is each competition?
Each competition is 90 minutes long and usually includes 15 multiple-choice questions. For the COMC, it is 120 minutes.
  • What do students get out of participating?
Participating in nationally recognized mathematics competitions greatly enhances students' portfolios, especially for those pursuing university entrance scholarships. These competitions offer valuable problem-solving experience and enable students to benchmark their skills against Canada's brightest math minds. All participants receive official certificates, while top achievers are awarded trophies and medals and are publicly recognized on the Canadian Mathematics TCAA website.
  • Does everyone get certificates?
Absolutely! All students who participate as Official Participants will receive certificates. High-scoring students will earn Award Certificates, while others will receive quartile-based Certificates. After the competition concludes, we will issue the certificates and provide you with the link.
