Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC)
The Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC), organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS), will be held for its second year on October 5th. The competition is open to students from grades K-12, with questions primarily based on the Canadian mathematics curriculum for grades 7 to 12. The CLMC is designed to make mathematics fun and engaging for students of all skill levels while providing teachers with an excellent tool to assess their students' math abilities early in the school year.
The CLMC is a 90-minute competition consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions focused on the core curriculum for grades 7-11. The competition aims to foster an interest in mathematics among students, build confidence in their math skills, and present math as an enjoyable and playful subject. The CLMC provides feedback upon exam completion to help students develop their mathematical abilities.
The competition typically takes place at the end of September or the beginning of October each year. This timing allows teachers to use it as a valuable assessment tool at the start of the academic year. It also serves as excellent practice for students with advanced math skills who wish to participate in the more challenging Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) later in October, which includes written solutions.
Students participating in the CLMC have the opportunity to win prizes and awards. Those who achieve a perfect score in the competition are invited to participate in the COMC free of charge. The COMC serves as the primary gateway to elite invitation-only tournaments, such as the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO). The CLMC is available via PDF delivery, making it accessible to all participants across Canada.
